The Race is on for the perfect hat!

With the Galway Races happening in a few weeks and with the racing calendar in full swing, the search is out for the coolest, quirkiest, most stylish hat for Ladies day!

Edel Ramberg, a newbie from Co. Galway who trained under watchful eye of fellow Galweigen world renowned milliner and celebrity favourite Philip Tracey , commenced her fashion career whilst studying for her BA in design at Limerick School of art and Designthe fabulous Philip Tracey (like he needs any Introduction). She has also done a stint with fabulous Irish designer Joanne Hynes.

Edel launched her collection just in time for Punchestown this year. Each piece is handmade by Edel with great attention to detail, using traditional millinery techniques with hand crafted wooden blocks to shape each base with felted wools and sinnamays. Edel also uses alternative materials moulding plastics, wires and papier mache to create her light and contemporary pieces. Edel's bespoke pieces can be hand beaded or dyed to match a particular outfit.

About " Sweet Jane"

Sweet Jane's origins lie in early 2007, comprised of Danda, Lydia Des Dolles and Ruairi Paxton, the trio have successfully become one of Ireland's most exciting & most talked about new bands. In 2008 they released their debut EP 'Blackboots & Blackhearts' to a succession of positive reviews from weekly's, monthlies and the tres important blog world, which in turn saw them featured on their 'Best Of 2009' / 'Hope of 2010' Lists.

Their live set is described as an energetic roller coaster of sleazy guitars, achingly sexy vocals, split between Lydia & Danda & topped off with their trade mark 'dream-pop rock 'n roll'. For the last 12 months the band have been touring furiously throughout the UK & Ireland, which resulted in their invitation to tour with bands such as GLASVEGAS || BLACK REBEL MOTORCYCLE CLUB || A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS || THE KILLS || WHITE LIES || THE DUKE SPIRIT and have appeared in the line-ups of popular UK & Ireland music festival's such as THE DREAM MACHINE FESTIVAL (Sheffield, UK), INDIE-PENDANCE (Cork, Ireland), IRISH GREEN GATHERING (Wexford, Ireland) & LONDONS CALLING (London, UK) The biggest part of the last year for the band was being offered to tour alongside Alan Mc Gee & BP Fallon at their infamous Rock & Roll circus DEATH DISCO in London & Dublin. Whilst numerous tastemakers and popular bloggers feature the band, one noted supporter is BP Fallon, who has continuously shown his loyalty & support to Sweet Jane by featuring them as ''Artist of the week'' on his 'Wang Dang Doodle' Radio show and frequently playlisting their singles.

In March of 2009 they were picked to become apart of RTE 2's The Raw Sessions - a music documentary on upcoming Irish artists, where they had a crew of four people follow them for a week, filming at their studio, on stage, at home and finishing with a 12 hour recording session at Sun Studio's, Dublin where they recorded their single ''Black Eyes''.

Because of the dramatic emotion & melody in Sweet Jane's music it makes for a perfect partner in film and video, as a result their music will be used in independent and mainstream productions in the coming months. One director who felt compelled to use Sweet Jane's music in one of his pieces was British Getaway Films director Russell Lee Ford, who offered to produce a music video for the track ''Blackboots & Blackhearts'', while independent French film director Sebastian Bellaval is currently mid-production working on a video for ''Take Me Home''. Towards the end of this year they were chosen by Hotpress Magazine and New York's most prestigious Film & Arts University NY to feature as part of their TISCH music video project, in which they completed a video for their new single 'You're Making This Hard'. Melissa Curry Designer - The Art of adornment, The Irish Times Magazine

Making a comeback in Dublin after an absence of five years is talented designer Melissa Curry, whose new jewellery collection draws from traditional Chinese lacquer jewellery (as familiar in China as the Tara brooch or Claddagh ring here), but in a modern setting. It was inspired by Curry's travels in China in the early 1990s, while she was training as an artist in Paris. "I added sterling silver chains, which come in different lengths, to give movement, like a pendulum or a pocket watch," she says.

Known for audacious designs, Sligo-born Curry has over the years collaborated with Yohji Yamamoto, Philippe Starck and L'Eclaireur in Paris, among others, and was selected as "Cutting Edge" jewellery designer during Liberty's international campaign for the London Millennium. Her new collection can be found in Havana in Donnybrook, Dublin 4, where prices start at €250 for bangles and go up to €475 for neckpieces, including the Ping cinnabar neckpiece above, which is €425.

Brian Lenihan, Minister for Finance officially opened DPD Ireland's Dublin Northwest depot today, Thursday August 27^th. The depot is one of 38 in DPD Ireland's (formerly Interlink Ireland) parcel delivery network and is operated by Jason and Caroline Tuthill. Their recent move to new premises in Damastown Industrial Park is part of their commitment to serve businesses in the Dublin North West area. While other courier companies are contracting their networks, DPD Ireland is expanding, with the recent addition of two new depots in Northern Ireland. The Damastown depot is one of five serving the Dublin area, and 38 nationwide.

It's been my experience that most young designers are somewhat premature in launching themselves onto the marketplace. But not Claire O'Connor.

She set high standards for herself, working for several years with highly respected designers to learn her craft. Consequently, she is more than ready to take her place in the ranks of exclusive designers, as the Claire O'Connor collection joins Philip Treacy, Preen and Jasmine di Milo in The Design Centre.

Claire is what Pauric Sweeney would call a demi-couturier. That means her garments are not entirely hand-sewn, but most are hand-done one-offs, with a labour-intensive detail. Claire is an originator, creating unique clothing. Her style stamp is a cross between Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Lacroix, featuring sophisticated tailoring, body-con fit, sex appeal, urban savvy, eclecticism and visual interest.

"My passions are hip-hop music and high-end fashion, so in my work I am diffusing the two," Claire, who has two labels, explains. "My style is classic, with a bit of an edge. I do get a lot of inspiration from the Paris couturiers. I love exceptional tailoring and finish. But I also love challenging the 'normal'."

Claire's playful attitude masks her superior competence and cutting ability. Her creations range from funky streetwear to sophisticated occasionwear, the latter featuring sumptuous cocktail dresses and evening coats with drop-dead fit and hand-embellished work. She is obsessive about fit and finish.

"After graduating from the Grafton Academy, I worked for Marc O'Neill. He had an unusual eye for design and was obsessive about cut -- I learnt a huge amount," she says. "I then worked for Jen Kelly, haute couturier. There I learned the importance of attention to detail and finish. But," she adds, "I can never resist playing. It has to have a twist to keep it interesting."

Claire set up her own label five years ago and she got a lot of bridal and occasionwear commissions. But when she started doing a ready-to-wear range of jersey pieces for Designer Knitwear Direct in Dalkey, she won a new fanbase. Her willingness to work with customers' needs, creating individual patterns for women up to size 22, has won her devoted loyalty. One fan describes Claire as "a little miracle worker".

Her collection for The Design Centre comprises 12 dress styles, which can be bought ready-to-wear or ordered to fit. There are also some stunning jackets and coats with unique detailing. And this is just the beginning. Expect great things.
